After running the article on feitv.org last week, today I discovered epona.tv.
Epona was set up by a group of Danish enthusiasts and is not sponsored by the equestrian industry or federations. They source their funding entirely through subscriptions, making them independent (and the content pay-tv like FEI).
Although starting in Danish, (with the majority of footage in English) the team have recently moved to over-dub the outstanding Danish footage in English, making the entire collection now available in both languages.
You pay €8 per month for a subscription, which works out to be around AUD$12. If you were to subscribe annually, that’d be around AUD$144 compared with AUD$100 for FEI tv. The real difference between the two is content – whilst FEI broadcast World Cup, Olympics and are more competition focused, Epona runs feature articles (more like documentaries, workshops and instructional videos) on subjects of interest. You’ll also find Epona publishes videos like the now famous Scandic Blue Tongue Video – there’s certainly a slight hint of alternative media sprinkled through the Epona news updates.
Better yet, because it’s a smaller team with a different agenda to the large broadcast networks, if you have an idea for a feature article, you can send it through to reporters Luise and Julie via info@epona.tv
